Hi!
I was at the US Navy's Boot Camp, Recruit Training Command (RTC) Great Lakes from December 22, 1966 until May 9, 1967.
I am using my blog as a way to find other recruits who were there over the snowy winter of 1966-1967.
If you're a member of company 739 or fellow companies, I'd enjoy hearing from you.
After a twenty-two+ year career I retired from the Navy.
Our recent 21 inches of snow in Oregon brought back memories of that winter, and I am looking for leads as to where those other recruits may have gone or ended up.

I was there the next winter, 1967
Oct. 67 until Jan. 67. We had lots of weather. I still remember hanging clothes between the barracks and then later getting them down all frozen.
I only spent 4 years, my rate ADR
was a dead end so it was switch to ADJ jets or not advance.
I have made my living working as a mechanic and electrician ever since.
The schooling in the U. S. Navy was the best I ever had before or since.

It was one cold SOB! I remember sweeping snow off the sidewalks in the low cut dress shoes. COLD!
Company Commander was a sadistic MM
R.L. Peoples. "ok guys were gonna have a little Coking Smoking and Chocking....He was a little short guy and would only pick on the little guys like Ratina...and would grab them by the neck and shove his thumb into their adams apple. He got us all ready for graduation and departure. Then told us the good and bad news. BAD: as a company we were so screwed up we were going to spend extra weeks there. Cant remember how many. GOOD...he was to remain our Co. Commander. Truth was the schools were so full they didnt have room for us. I went to Memphis for AM school, then to El Centro for duration of duty! One day I was running a crane helping the Blue Angels. Told this civilian guy how El Centro sucked, nothing to do there work wise except wait on the Prima Donna Blues......Later he said he was Cdr. Bill Wheat, Skipper of the Blues. Wrote him a letter in Pcola at his suggestion, he got me out of El Centro and on the Blues. Rode in the backseat of the F4 #3 as a Crew Chief. 3 1/2 year enlistment, back to school, learned to fly, retired from UAL in 2005 having flown the big iron like the 747-400. Still flying Citation Jets on Charter from Burlington Vt. Would like to connect with anyone else from the infamous Company 116 of 1966.
Do you remember the 98 count Manual Of Arms. Pushing the M1 in the Drill Hall. I can still hear the music. dah dah ...dah dah. dadadadah...dah!
